The rituals of Hajj are rich with meaning and purpose. By understanding each step clearly, you can perform them with confidence, devotion, and serenity. This guide provides a structured overview of all major rites.
1️⃣ Entering Ihram
Before crossing the Miqat boundary, enter the state of Ihram.
Declare your intention for Hajj and recite the Talbiyah:“Labbaik Allahumma labbaik, labbaika laa shareeka laka labbaik…”
2️⃣ Tawaf al-Qudum
Upon arriving in Makkah, perform Tawaf by circling the Kaaba seven times in a counterclockwise direction.
Offer two units of prayer behind Maqam Ibrahim if possible.
3️⃣ Sa’i between Safa and Marwah
Walk between the hills of Safa and Marwah seven times, reflecting on the endurance of Hajar (peace be upon her).
Complete with personal supplications.
4️⃣ Staying in Mina
On the 8th of Dhul Hijjah, proceed to Mina.
Spend the night engaged in prayer and remembrance.
5️⃣ Day of Arafat
On the 9th, travel to Arafat.
Stand in earnest supplication from midday until sunset.
This is the pinnacle of Hajj and a time for deep reflection.
6️⃣ Muzdalifah
After sunset, move to Muzdalifah.
Collect 49 or 70 pebbles for stoning the Jamarat.
Rest overnight under the open sky.
7️⃣ Rami al-Jamarat and Sacrifice
On the 10th, return to Mina.
Stone the Jamrah al-Aqabah (the largest pillar) with seven pebbles.
Offer an animal sacrifice (Qurbani).
Men shave their heads or trim their hair; women cut a small portion.
8️⃣ Tawaf al-Ifadah
Return to Makkah for Tawaf al-Ifadah.
Perform Sa’i again if not completed after Tawaf al-Qudum.
9️⃣ Final Rites
Continue stoning the Jamarat over the next two days.
Complete your pilgrimage with Tawaf al-Wada (farewell Tawaf) before departing Makkah.
Hajj is a journey of surrender, reflection, and renewal. Approach every step with humility and devotion, trusting in Allah’s mercy and guidance.
